Don't pay attention to some of these idiots obviously they have no clue about Mexico City based on their clueless answers ( NOT ALL OF THEM ARE STUPID SOME OF THEM HAVE GOOD TIPS LIKE gerardo and SOLYMAR ). One of the most important things is to take an airport taxi only. If you don't have anyone to pick you up. Since you don't specify the length of your stay or reason for visiting. I'll have to at least recommend you to take the turibus ( www.turibus.com.mx ) search under D.F.. This is a double-decker bus that will take you through some of the major avenues and attractions of Mexico City. Have a taxi take you to the boarding station in Chapultepec park. This is the best place to start.
This should at least give you and idea of what Mexico city is like although the city is about twice the size of New York city so you won't get to visit most of it. Lastly don't be scared it is not as scary as they say unless you're an easily intimidated first time in a big city smalltown hillbilly which you don't seem to be.

Yes, Mexico City is somewhat a dangerous place, like every other major metropolis. After all, it is a 22 million metro area. Just try not to look very "tourist" but don't be paranoid either. There are plenty of activities and things to see. That you have fluent Spanish helps a lot. Oh, one more thing, don't get on the green taxis, just the white w/orange stripes taxis, they are safer. Also you can check:

And enjoy!

PS. Make sure you have a Mexico City driving and subway map. The subway map you can take a look in:

Hi
There are many things to see in Mexico that you could do or visit.

I don´t know.... museums, monuments, fun places.

It´ll be better if you have enough time to visit many places.
