The "left side of the brain" is often used for logic, linear, and rational thought. It is often used in mathematical, and problem solving actives. Often doing things that involved shape manipulation use the left brain.
Some specific activities that would require left brain involvement are: word problems, arranging things in order (pattern making), memorizing vocabulary words (rather then creating sentences which is more right brained), or creating directional maps.

Another angle to this, in addition to what was said above, is to use your right arm and leg in new and different ways. The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body.
In a similar way, when you make both your hands cross over the midline of the body, you build neuron connections in the brain.
Movement leads to a strong brain as well as a strong body.

Singing, drawing, painting, to name a few. Most creative activities are left brain. Some people have found relief from stammering and stuttering speech by learning to sing their speech. Talking is a right brain activity and singing left.

One of the most basic human activities that uses the left side of the brain is talking! Brocas area (left frontal lobe) helps us to program the muscles we use in speech and Wernickes area (left temporal lobe) helps us to encode what we want to say. Only in very rare cases are the speech centers located in the right cerebral hemisphere.
