ehh.... well, it depends.
They say, up there, that you only get about lower than $100. Well, that's because the things in the Philippines are MUCH cheaper in the Philippines.
Like the burger. The burger in the Philippines costs about....... less than $1.
If you're gonna buy other things, I recommend going to Divisoria. It's a very busy and a very cheap place. I got my stuff there, and I was surprised on how much money I had left. haha. But you just need to be careful of the people that sell the stuff. They might sell it to foreigners more than people that live there. But it is easy to try to get the prices lower than the original price. My father was about to buy a really nice red Ferrari jacket for P500(about $10) and got the seller of the jacket to lower the price for him to P350(about $7)
Or maybe you can get your things from the mall in Greenhills. That place is a place full of clothes, bags, shoes, etc. Greenhills is somewhere in Manila. Ask a friendly Filipino there, or take a taxi. But I VER STRONGLY RECOMMEND to learn our language, Tagalog, or get a friend that is born and raised in the Philippines that can talk in Tagalog FLUENTLY to come with you.
So basically, the pay there is low, but the things you buy also have low prices.

I was in Baguio City on a project for about 6 weeks. The client was a call center that handled outsourced customer service calls from the US. I know that the team leaders made approximately $150 USD per month. I couldn't deal with the concept that I make that in about than 3 hours and I of course never let them know.
But those people were richer in spirit than any american I've ever met. Experiencing the combination of those two things - no money and joyful life - has changed me forever.

They get paid so little and yet, spend a lot. Imagine this, almost all household has a househelp. Where will you find that in the US? If you want a comfortable life, then make a move .... live in the Philippines. When I retire, I'll be retire in the Philippines.
Mabuhay!

They make very little compared to the USA. Some may make only two or three dollars per day. It really depends on what you consider middle class.

"Middle class" ie: not house help, etc.
In Manila starting salaries for professionals (4 yr degree / CPA / engineer) are about the equivalent of USD 300 - 400 per month plus 13th month salary, with a few years experience just short of USD 1,000 / mo. + bonus depending on the employer.
For reference: a personal driver (ie: not "middle" class as far as income goes) makes about 6,000 - 10,000 pesos/mo (120 - 200 $US) in Manila.
Outside of Manila the salaries are a bit lower.

At least 15,000-20,000 pesos for a single, no rent, no utilities, no groceries to be paid. -
we cant really compare salaries in the Philippines to salaries earned in the US because the standard of living in the US is higher, you earn dollars you spend in dollars.
You can get a McDonalds meal in the Philippines for $1 , in the US it's AT LEAST $3.50 plus tax! ;-)
