IF your child feels comfortable being in there I say it is alright....he always has the option to wait in the waiting room if it gets too tough for him. My sister had her children in the delivery room with her and besides being apart of the joy of watching their sister be born they also got to see what their mom went through to bring them into this world. I think it is a magical moment and if you both feel comfortable with the idea who is to say he can't be there??

I think that it would be fine to have your 12 year old son in the delivery room when you have your baby as long as he wants to because As a lot of people would have already told you, it would be a very traumatic experience if he wasn't properly prepared. But yeah, go for it. good luck!!!

It's up to you, but just know that a kid that age might not know how to process all of what he sees. You know how bloody and messy birth is. It will also be hard for him to watch you struggle. And what does he gain from this experience? If he was able to see the baby right after you have it, wouldn't that be just as good? If you are going to have him in the delivery room you need to prep him for what he will see, because he likely has a vision of birth as what he's seen on tv and that is definitely not how it really looks.

Depends on the maturity level of your 12 year-old. I think it could be a wonderful family experience, but it could also be pretty traumatic if the child hasn't been brought up to speed on what childbirth entails. If you decide to do it, I would maybe suggest letting him/her stay removed until the birth is imminent, and then let them watch from a comfortable distance.

DCFS might not think so. Actually, child birth is a normal part of life, as is death. Are you ready for your 12 year old to understand this part? More importantly, is the 12 year old ready? Maybe if boys understood the pain of child birth, they might think twice about impregnating before marriage and before jobs and security.

I think It's up to you. If you feel comfortable enough to have your 12 year old in there, you should. I don't see why it would be a problem, It's a good idea to have your close family in the room with you.

my 12 year old daughter was with me when she was 11. You just need to be very specific about where the baby comes out at (some still think "stomach" at that time) and that even if it looks like you're in pain he shouldn't be scared. That was what got to my daughter. She was so worried about me she freaked out and started yelling at the nurses!!

Probably not, while morally it might be ok. Fact of the matter your 12 year old wont like it, your wife, his mother.. would be screaming and your son probably would be scared. Also delivery can sometimes be a long process and it would be very boring for your son to have to endure.

I had my 15 year old niece in with me and she was fascinated. She stayed up by my head also, but she was very proud that she got to see her little cousin come into the world. Not sure how a boy would react though ...

I would say no, only due to his age and also the fact that he is a male. Guys always take it harder than women and childbirth is not the prettiest thing to see. I would keep him there until the times comes that it gets really full on then move him outside. He can always come back in after bubs is born.
Congrats and good luck
