whats the best way to get rid of them

because their roots will only grow in standing water. they can never dry out or they'll die. they prefer from 1" to 1' of water, and they grow best in a swampy mire where the water is either stagnate or very slow moving.

Cattails need lots of moisture and the roots are very deep and you can make tea when prepared in the right way. They not only grow in ponds but wet soggy ditches also. if you want to get rid of them check this sight.
