I am also unable to access MSN Messenger or my mail through MSN although I can use Hotmail. This started when I tried to install IE 7. Is there a free Microsoft support site for IE 7?

IE7 is, indeed, a white elephant. Personally, I don't care for it.
IE6 or Firefox 2 really is better. The one reason for your installation problem that immediately comes to mind, though, is that you have to have a VALID windows xp certificate. Did you possibly acquire your win xp without actually buying it commercially? If so, IE7 will not install.

You may not be meeting the system requirments needed to install it. Either that or maybe your copy of xp is illegal. Try doing other windows updates first. Look at what is needed to meet system requiremnts at the microsoft site.
