(The laptop is a LATITUDE D600)I think it is because the speakers are not configured properly (or at all). I have tried searching for a driver for the speakers and i found it and it didnt work, and headphones or speakers that plug into the headphone jack dont work either. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

P.S. Also, do you know where my USB 2.0 port is? thanks

Given the age of your laptop, you have USB1 connections, not USB2. they look the same, but you can't increase the speed on the USB port by changing drivers, only replacing the motherboard

Ok so your built in speakers dont work. I have this problem sometimes it has nothing to do with viruses. it happens when i dont restart my computer enough for some reason windows disables them i have no clue why. try restarting them. make sure that the volume is on. if that doesnt work then call dell if you still have a warranty on it they will help you right away even if you dont have a warranty on it you can renew your subscription to your warranty and and then use it the same day. The new feature called dell connect let someone help you and fix your computer remotely. If it has something to do with viruses they will more than likely fix it remotely and fix your speakers. also your usb ports are either at the back or at the left side of the computer. My usb ports are on the left side of my computer and i have an inspiron b130. but i have seen them at the back of the computer on laptops as well. I hope that you find the usb ports and that you get your speakers fixed.
P.S. You might be able to fix your speakers bye using the driver on the dell support website.

Here, I will take it one at a time:

1) It seems that you might need to reinstall your sound drivers. Dell is nice about keeping track of all of their drivers. So go here
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

It will ask for your service code, which is on the bottom of your laptop. Enter it in, and it will give you ALL the downloads for the laptop, along with updates to your hardware...which would be nice to download as well.

2) USB Ports. Now adays, technology has improved. The origional USB ports were just called that....USB. Then they came out with a faster port, which transfered information faster, so they called it USB 2.0.
So I would venture to guess that ANY USB port on your laptop is going to be 2.0. Now if you don't know what it is, or where...they should be on the rear of the laptop. They are thing wafer jacks in the rear. The universal symbol for a USB device the "trident"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB

that link has a picture of the icon for USB devices, and will explain them some more.

Hope this helped, and have a merry christmas.

1) reinstall your sound drivers
2) download windows defender (it is better then the firewall
that comes with the computer)
3) turn on the popup blocker
4) turn on the computers firewall (no harm in checking if
it is on)
5) stay away from porn sites! (not saying that you visit them)

The USB ports are located one 1 or 2 of the following sides:
The left or right sides of your laptop or on the back of it.

P.S. the following link will bring you to the download
site for Windows Defender.

If the sound problems occur intermittently, there could be a interrupt conflict problem. Uninstall the audio and sound drivers and restart the computer. The computer will automatically reinstall the required drivers and the problem will be resolved. For more information you can check the following site: http://fixit.in/sound.html I find the information givenin the site is more useful
