Am I the only one who's greatly annoyed at signs and people who refer to ATMs as "ATM Machines"? Does no one else realize the "M" stands for "Machine", and therefore it's redundant to say, "Automatic Teller Machine Machine"?

The same goes for "PIN Number".. Does no one realize it's redundant to say, "Personal Identification Number Number"?

Yes, all the time. The urge to pull a Monty Python skit ("hello, department of redundancy department!") is tough to avoid.

Unfortunately, I think we're in the minority...everytime I complain, my friends roll their eyes ("There she goes again.")

I just chalk it up to being the same people who can't figure out the proper use of apostrophes.

I've heard them called just about everything including a cash machine or money machine and it doesn't bother me one bit. All I know is that I'm one that sure prefer using an ATM rather then wait in line only to wait longer to get cash from a bank teller.

This is funny...and so me and times, with the exception of the make-up and dumping my purse. I occasionally enter the wrong pin number, and I always have to open my door because I can't reach the machine even with my arm out of the window.... Great one!

The public lexicon is a pretty amazing thing. If this is how it evolved, so be it...

There are so many more important issues to deal with...

Honest to God, I never even thought of that... you're absolutely right, good on you!

It's a lot like the signs in McDonalds that say, "If you're blind, please request a braille menu." And they would be able to read that how???

Have a fun Holiday! Suz

Yea, that bugs me too!

So, when I enter my PIN should I use a straight PIN or a safety PIN?
