i went to a japanese resturaunt where they cook the food in front of u and do tricks & stuff. our cook was hispanic. i thought it was kinda funny. of course i expected a japanese person.

So funny! Almost all of the older oriental restaurants in the town I used to live in were run by hispanics! It was so prevalent that it looked odd to see an actual oriental person working in an oriental restaurant!

Of course the cooks were Mexican. All the cooks in Chicago, at least, are Mexican, and many of the restaurants are owned by Greeks, unless it happens to be a Mexican restaurant.

Benihana's got sued in CA by two hispanic jr chefs who weren't allowed to get their own "show" because they weren't oriental. The restaurant lost, and they have to let anyone who can do it cook now. That was a few years ago.

All the cooks in my local Chinese restaraunts are hidden. Maybe they don't want people to see that they are Mexicans. I never thought of that.
