I had a renter in my home that never cleaned the top of the stove. It has baked in food on the top and it can't be cleaned.

y'know, my wife and i had a problem with the stove that was in this house when we bought it...we had problems with it (just the top of it, too. the oven worked fine)for 3 years until i finally got over my cheap self enough to buy a new stove. now we don't have a problem with the stove...the price of replacing the top compared with the price of replacing the whole appliance was of negligible difference

Last ditch effort to clean glass top. Use bon-ami or barkeepers friend. dampen glass, sprinkle on cleanser, cover with damp towels over night. Next day re dampen towels, Using a finishing sander(without sandpaper)Place on damp towels and polish the glass with the sander. This may do a good enough job for you however beware that etching of the glass may occur or painted design may be worn off. Remember this is a last ditch effort!

I'M NOT SURE WHAT YOU HAVE. A STOVE BURNS WOOD. YOU PROBABLY HAVE A COOKTOP OR A RANGE, THE COST OF THE TOP PORTION OF A COOKTOP WOULD BE VERY CLOSE TO THE COST OF A NEW BASIC COOKTOP. IT MIGHT BE ONLY A THIRD OF THE COST OF A NEW RANGE BUT IT DEPENDS HEAVILY ON WHAT RANGE YOU BUY. DELIVERY WILL 3 OR 4 WKS OR IF IT IS VERY OLD YOU MAY FIND IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS HARVEST GOLD OR AVOCADO OR WHATEVER. IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE SOMEONE DO IT FOR YOU ADD AT LEAST $100.00. I FEEL SURE IT WILL COST MORE.

It normally cosats the same to buy a new one as it does for the glass top. Buy a new unit... 6 years working in appliance service.

it can be done depending on make and model, but you`ll find that its probably cost prohibitve, it may be less expensive to replace the entire unit in the long run. and you may find that there are other problems that you haven`t found yet, such as clogged burners/elements in the oven and other less desireable gunk under the unit itself, good luck
