After WWII Arab nation used nationalism to seperate themselves from western powers. They did this by overthrowing leaders that were puppets of western nations. Iran, Iraq are examples of nations that pushed out western influence to create nations that were less dependant on foreign influence.

self -determination this was the policy Woodrow Wilson to use in his fourteen points after WWI for the Arab nations and African nations. But due to his unpopularity at the time and resurgence of Conservatism in the US it was never used. However this was again approach after WWII by president Truman but again the resurgence of Conservatisim in America caused the Middle East to not get the knowledge and support they needed to maintain a democracy. Since we turn deaf earth to these nations, the Soviets open their doors and influence them with socialism. That why it is so much upheaval today. While we rebuilt Germany and Japan we should have provide resources to the Arab and African nations as well. Thats why we have planes flying into our skycrapers. It sad but thats what American get in return.
