I wonder about this every day. If that makes me closed minded, then I suppose there are worse things to be called that over.
Language should evolve and *grow*, but it should not be lost in the process of evolution. Our dictionaries are shrinking by leaps & bounds. That bothers me very much.
Such things as net lingo should not endanger but it seems to be doing so. Classic shorthand at its peak didn't detract from language, it was just a way to take dictation in shortened form, only to put it back when translated.
I don't mind a combination of both, but I'd surely like to see people taking the time to actually type out complete words & sentences from time to time.
In truth, the trend is making me think that before too much longer we'll all be back to heiroglyphics. It seems like we're moving backward instead of forward.

I understand where you're coming from. I personally don't stop & wonder what the world is coming to . I'm blown away everyday by the good , bad & the ugly...I enjoy the beauty I see along the way...I gasp at some of the illness, and evil that man does to himself and fellow citizens. I see perople consume more than they need, ( myself included) I support relief efforts to make someone else day a little brighter. If the idea of something new has got you feeling blue, or down I encourage you to take your stand your voice is important..As, a freind I ask you to reflect on how it must have been for generations past to have new ideas implemented when most were content with things the way they were. Unfortunatly new, the unfarmiliar is often scarey...but progress has moved forward through fears and nay sayers through the entire history of the planet...It's ok to be old fashioned, ( i am aslo old fashioned in some regard ) close minded? Perhaps ; I would say-- you know where you stand on an issue. and that's ok...when your ready to open up & listen to opposing views --you , may just find yourself with more amunition to take a stronger position with on your point of view...that which doesn't kill us ..makes us stronger........

Yes, especially after 9/11 things will definitely never be the same again! It almost makes me dread my own future because who knows what THAT will be like, what with all this craziness going on in the world now...

All the time, especially when I hear mothers killing their own children. If we've already come to that, I don't know what else we can expect.
