The clicking noise would probably be because your battery is s little low. If the starter is jammed in just put the car into a low gear without the ignition on and get some pals to help you to rock the car backwards and forwards This will often free the starter and it should spring back to where it should be. Then you could have another go at starting the car normally

had similar problem on 54 tdci just normal instrument lights dimming on turning key couldn't hear solenoid click managed to put battery feed direct to ignition feed on solenoid there was very slight clunk and fiz as if starter jammed I knew battery was good so try rocking car several times in 3rd gear still nothing gave few sharp taps with hammer on nearside end of starter and it started working when I turned key tried it 3 times in succession all good so guess need to have a look at starter sometime soon I'm guessing it was starter and not starter relay near battery time will tell hope this helps someone

Try a sharp tap with a hammer right on the end of the starter but you will need a new one for sure sorry

its possible your starter did or still is stuck in the start position ..but the clicking sound is signs of a flat battery its your solenoid trying to engage but not enough power .. get a bump start ..but starter motor Bendix will need to be checked

I agree with Allan W1, would like to add that if you know you have a good charge in your battery, make sure the bolts are tight enough on the poles of your battery and also where the cable attaches to your starter..
