ok we got our leop. gecko. he lives in my sons basement bedroom. i have set a light timer for 7am-7pm. we live in iowa and am wondering if he will get to cold at night the heat in our home is set at 68, his tank is built into the wall flush, the tank itself is in the laundry/furnace room. does it need the night light? in reading they say low 70s what if it's mid 60's? he is alert and eating crickets since we brought him home. mostly hanging out in hut since tank investigation.

You should have a heat lamp and a heat pad. The heat lamp and pad should be on the same end of the tank. The heat lamp should be on for 12 hours of the day. The heat pad should always be left on.

P.S Do not use a heat rock. They have been known to burn lizards!

Get a heat bulb that is red or "invisible". The reptile can not detect the red light in the bulb. If it only needs to get into the low 70's place the bulb not derectly on the top of the cage an make sure it is a very weak bulb.
Hope this helps

with geckos that's normaly ok to easily go away a warmth matt on over evening as those reptiles would be used to realy chilly nights so would desire to be ok if an person gecko warmth needs monitoring extra as would desire to attempt and drop it to 87 on the nice and comfortable end and not in any respect EVER put in A UVB BULB AS this would cook THE GECKO FROM the interior it could and could very very nearly definitely KILL IT GECKOS are no longer dealt with LIKE BEARDYS
