is Sprains?

Sprains are stretching injuries of ligaments that connect muscles to bones. Ligaments are connective tissue that holds bones together in the skeleton. Sprain occurs only at joints, where two bones are connected. The severity of the injury may vary from a minor stretching that may soon recover fully to a major tear that makes the bony link unstable.
Home Remedy for Sprains

Tips 1:

Chop onions. Wrap in a muslin cloth and place on the sprained area.

Tips 2:

Make a paste of lime leaves and butter. Apply on the affected area.

Tips 3:

Mix 1 tsp almond oil and 1 tsp garlic oil, apply.

Tips 4:

Mix 1 tsp raw lime powder and 1 tsp of honey. Apply on the sprain.

Tips 5:

Warm the outer leaves of a cabbage in hot water and bandage them around the sprain.

Put your ankle up when ever you can and apply a bag of frozen peas or corn wrapped in a thin tea towel for 15 min. put back in the freezer and after 1/2 hour again for 15 minutes. Take Motrin or Advil to reduce the pain and inflammation. Continue that for the evening. If it doesn't work within a few days go to a clinic. But it should do the trick and you'll be ready for next Thursday.

If anyone suggests that you take any kind of medication in a forum like this, DON'T TAKE THEIR ADVICE!!! No matter who they say they are. Here is some simple advice that will have no consequences ( and doesn't involve marinating your foot in sauce). Listen to what people have been saying about ice and elevation. It's sound advice. If you have to get this ankle back to shape in a hurry- do a contrast bath: get two buckets, fill one with warm water and the other with cold. Alternate your foot between the buckets every 30 seconds while you draw the alphabet with your toes. Do this daily for about 10 minutes if you can. This will discourage swelling and maintain movement. When you play on Thursday, see if you can get some one to do a "closed-basket weave" tape job for you.

Keep it elevated, take Motrin (ibuprofen) for any pain that you may have. Next time you play, if you can walk on it with no problems, make sure you wrap it with something like an ace wrap, or go to Wal-Mart and get a special ankle wrap that's made especially for the ankle. It'll probably be in either the pharmacy section, or the sporting section. Hope it feels better soon, Merry Christmas.

Tape it up, I've played hockey on a sore ankle before, however if it's swollen get it checked, as it could be broken. Beleive me it doesn't take much. .

Good luck
