A friend and I recently started emailing both through gmail, he always used the same addy to contact me, and I added him to my "quick contacts", but now, an alternate has shown up with his name but as a second person. He did verify that it is another he uses, but had never directly used it with me. How is this possible? Is it because we are both using gmail? If that's the case, can he see my alternates that I have with gmail? Please ask any other questions if I haven't been clear.

Usually GMail will show all alternates by default, he should see yours too, check under settings to see if it's enabled. Top Right Hand Side of the GMail Window by your log in name. Good luck
