First off im an American and I want to know what you guys think of socalized medicine. Do you think that its good that your government is over health care? Do you think its bad? Is it true that you guys wait for years to get a surgery done? And that the health care system is nearly bankrupt. Get back to me on this.

We do not wait years for all types of surgery - SOME people do, but most don't. The NHS is slow - but if you want fast service there's always the option to go private. The point of the national health service is that EVERYONE can have access to a good-quality (and let's face it, it is pretty good) healthcare for free/low cost. If you want the absolute best you won't ever get it on the NHS, because it's always lagging behind the private sector, so if you can afford it then go private.

I think the NHS was a brilliant idea, and even if it does need a lot of maintanance to keep it running, and even if it will never be the best in the world it's still very good at what it does. It also means that nobody - no matter how poor, will ever go without at least some treatment. That truly is a compassionate system. It completely amazes me that in the US you have to pay to go to hospital to give birth - SURELY it is in the interests of the nation that the maximum amount of healthy children are born without complication?

I ask a question of Canadians and it was this, if you had a choice would you trade our health care system for yours. Not one of the three answers I got was for the American system. That should say a lot. Sure there are problems with that system but an emergency is an emergency and you will get treated. What I think is bad is 45 million U.S. citizens have no access to affordable health care and many more are going to be without it in the future. One illness can wipe out all of your savings and make it impossible for you to get credit. Something needs to be done to reign in this system as it is out of control and feeding its own greed with more greed. Especially the insurance company's.

I think socialised health care is a great idea, everyone gets treatment.

It's only elective surgery that has a waiting list and that is needs based.

It certainly beats the American system, where most of the people get no care at all.
