A macbook would be better because at my dorm room when I had a PC, on the dorm network i was flooded with viruses, spyware, attempted hacks, you name it. A mac is a lot less vulnerable to those kinds of attacks. Also at my school there was a $100 discount at the school bookstore so you could get the macbook for $1000. I have a macbook and after upgrading to 2gb ram from new egg, the machine is very fast. If you do get a PC make sure that you invest in antivirus and a good firewall or you will have constant problems whenever you connect to the internet at school.

I've answered these questions countless times. I would highly recommend a Mac. If you look back at some of my other answers, you'll find out exactly why. I switched to Mac almost three years ago, after being a PC users for ten years. There's a million reasons to go with Mac. Macs work quite well with other Windows systems. You'll be surprised. Macs can also run Windows XP natively, meaning you'll never have to compromise compatibility. MacBooks have great battery life. I know, because I just received my MacBook Pro. I absolutely love this machine. I use it for everything you can think of, like recording music, creating documents, playing games, listening to music, creating DVDs containing photo slideshows, chatting with friends, video conferencing, web surfing, creating web sites, working with other computers on the network, photo editing with Photoshop, organizing addresses and calendar events... I haven't found a single thing that I can't do with my wonderful Mac(s). There's a lot of great reasons to choose a Mac. If you have any specific questions about the Mac, just send me a message. I'll be happy to clear up any confusion. Don't fall for all of the Mac myths that are spread by the PC users. Most PC users have little or no experience with a Mac, especially the newer Intel based Macs. I'm a level 5 Yahoo! Answers user and I got there by mostly answering Mac related questions. Good luck! Hope to see you on the Mac side.

Most people who are familar with Macs would prefer one over ANY other option, but the reality of the world is that you will see Windows far more often. As a second time student myself (B.B.A. in 2003), I would recommend a PC simply because that is typically what the instructors will use and teach. If you are required to obtain software for a class, it may not even be available for a Mac, meaning you will need to utilize the computer lab at the school more often. This may also be a concern for you if you have to share files with classmates.
Finally, if cost is a concern for you, you will get more for your money with a PC. Macs are expensive, and can be more difficult to upgrade in the future. It will be difficult to get a very powerful laptop for under $1500 unless you go with a PC.
I would definitely recommend, however, that you shop around. You can find really good deals, but you have to put forth a little research effort.
Good luck!

I am a pc user that always recommends Macs. If you arn't a PC expert and don't want to become a PC expert, go with a Mac. Since Mac switched over to intel you can run Windows on a Mac so there will be no problems with compatibility. The only problem in your case is your budget. If you can get a Mac that fits your needs for under $1500 go with that but if it is too underpowered for you, then you are probably going to have to stick to windows.

you can get a much nicer pc than a mac for that kind of money, and pcs have all the software students need. Only get a mac if you are an art, music, or film student.

I would say MacBook Pro because as a university student you would have to carry it around and the Pro just seems more durable. They are both excellent laptops though and they can both handle what you are going to use it for and more.

You'll get more for your money buying a PC. Macs are cooler looking and easier to use, but they're not cheap.

Mac dude. Yes, it's more money, but you'll still have a good computer a year from now.
