Most Americans spend to much time trying to be polotically correct. The media plays a big roll in determining what is polotically correct. We should take more pride in the first amendmant and speek our minds, and not worry so much about what other people think.I am glad we are free to disagree with eachother. If you beliefs hurt someones feelings who cares.I don't like the news people telling my children it is ok to be gay.I beleive this is wrong it is my place as a parent to teach my children my views on right and wrong.I base my beliefs on the word of god.Today our gov is afraid of the bible it wants to take it away
we are still one nation under god.The more you take god out of our schools the more violence you will see.Look at all the school shootings today and look at the time frames of prayer being removed from school.Ithink you will see a connection. Also remember this started at the height of the brady bill. The second admendment should also be respected.Honest people who have morals pose no threat or danger to anyone.

I think a large part of the problem in 'herd mentality'. As long as everything is moving in what is perceived as a good way, few people question the status quo. When all those things that make people comfortable are taken away, then you tend to see some type of action. Not always positive (riots, killings, etc), but something typically happens.
How we got here is a mix of factors that are subject to fact, fiction, conspiracy theory and innuendo. How we are educated, our individual and cultural values and our basic situations in life all drive the end results. In order to survive we need to strive for resources and how we gain those resources and what we are able to do with them are generally shaped by our society. And, this is where it got us.
As far as challenging the media ... Few people have the resources to actually 'know' if the media is lying. When the press was established as the '4th Estate', the intention was that it would serve as a watchdog of sorts on the ruling powers of the nations. In modern times, many of them have not served that ideal particularly well. But, for average people without resources or strong voices, it's hard to fight back.
In recent times, with the advent of the Internet & blogs, you have seen some people able to express themselves against the general flow of information from the government & the media - but, to 'Joe Average' it's still a questions of 'Who do I believe?' and 'What difference does it make?'.
Ultimately, it will require each citizen becoming more informed and more involved in their government and 'calling out' the media when conflicts of interest and falsehoods are revealed. It won't be a fast process, but hopefully it will be an ongoing one.

Well, some of the things you mention have to do with attracting members of the opposite sex. The reasons for that are obvious.
"Standing up to the media" is easy (whatever exactly that means). It's easy to spout off. Convincing people of your position requires evidence and a facility for sensible argument.
Caring about "rights being taken away" isn't a big deal if it doesn't affect one's daily life. I'm not sure what rights you are thinking of, but people will care if it affects them, and if not, they mostly won't. Which probably makes good sense.
The land we stand on is not being given away. All the land in the U.S. is already owned by somebody. You can inherit some, or buy some, or else you have to live with the fact that it is owned by somebody else. It doesn't probably matter very much who that somebody else is. In any event, it is rarely "foreign countries."

I do agree with your question and believe that the men of today, compared to that of lets say 40 years ago is way different. I mean a majority of the men can't even change their own tires! They worry about how much they weigh and there looks. There is not as much military type men that are strong and rugged and dont care for their looks, and while doing so - look sooo goood! believe me men, real women like a man that can take care of her and show her how much of a man he is. Yes, being successful and educated is important, but so is being a real man. There are way to many metro-sexuals today.

this is a good question save one word, "today". this is not a new phenomena. that being said it stems from lack of education, being raised to be mamaboys, being catered to and a culture that accepts this. we could go on and on but it's mostly because its easy to act that way. its harder to act like a man should.
