Ever see a movie called "They Live?" It was about aliens who were treating earth as a 3rd world country. Your question reminds me of that. In it they had subliminal messages all over the place with slogans like "Sleep, Eat, Buy, etc."

I don't know if there is any grand conspiracy, but certainly today's youth is being indoctrinated in a whole host of negative things by TV, the schools, and music. Oh well. Most usually wise up by the time they hit their 30s.
