NO ! The Dr can NOT stop you..... My friend is bi-polar, and she has an 8 yr old, and a 1 month old....... Her 8 yr old took the trait.. He is bipolar.......Learning problems, it just depends..... Mental retardation yes (not implying you) , simple learning problems...maybe.....just depends on how strong the gene is, and does it run bad in your family ?? Or his side ??

I am sorry that your aunt interfered in your medical care, forcing you to tie your tubes . I suppose your aunt thought you should because you ar learning disabled and Bi-polar? And you were not included in the decision? The Doctor sounds unethical to me. This is medical mal-practice by definition since you were already 21.
You have more control over your life than you think. It is good that you are questioning the control you have, even at this stage in your life. The doctor does not have the right to stop you from getting your tubes untied, and eventhough there is a chance that your child will come out learning disabled or Bi-polar, it is YOUR VERY OWN decision whether you want to take that chance. There is also the chance that your children will not have the problems you have.

You should do what you want. If you know you are bipolar then be prepared to help you child with it. Learn everything you can about being bipolar and how you can help the child. No one should assume that just because you have it that you will pass it on to our baby. Have you every heard about down syndrome people having normal babies. It could be the same for you. Be prepared for the worst and pray for the best. God bless!

I think it should be up to you. Are you married? You are old enough to make ur own decisions. Ur doctor may advise against it depending on the circumstances, but it is ultimately up to you in the end. You can always get a 2nd opinion. Motherhood is the best feeling in the world and I don't think anyone should be forced to miss out on it, especially if ur planning on being a good mother. Good luck to you

Yes you could pass the genes. As far as a doctor stopping you, I don't think he has the authority to do that since you are an adult.

How were you forced to have your tubes tied?
Yes, if your disorder/disease is genetic, it can by passed down to your offspring if you have children.
