I got a new playstation 2. It is the slim, silver limited edition version. After playing for 45 minutes the very top of the PS2 became very hot. Does this mean that the PS2 was overheating? Or does it simply get hotter due to the fact that is is slim and therefor the electrical parts are closer to the surface of the system?

PS2 slim has no fan. It does overheat. I have a slim and a normal. Whenever i play mmos and such i use normal cause i am on for 6 hours+. I use the slim for other games and it hasnt overheated yet. Keep it in an open area. If you have a fan point it at the slim. If you have a stand that helps a little.

Playstation 2s get hot whether they're the new slim models or the older versions. I own an older one and it gets a bit warm. I think that you're right about the componenents being closer together and to the surface. The best thing to do is make sure that the system is somewhere cool, not in a tight area so air can circulate around it, or you could point an external fan on it to keep it cooler. Have fun with your new PS2.

When I did some research, someone from a video game store told me that the new version of PS2 will overheat because the fan is smaller. She also told me that if you keep the unit well ventilated, it will not overheat. So if you have the game unit on your rug or in an entertainment unit, take it out and place it on something(a table or a stool or something that will allow air to flow around the unit)so it won't overheat. Hope this helps.

It sounds like you've an older PS3 equipment. I have the more recent "slender" style which I have under no circumstances had a difficulty with and for my section is the superb gaming equipment available being extra efficient than an X-field 360 and having Blu-Ray potential (that's why l. a. Noire for PS3 is on one disc yet on 3 discs for the 360). I also want the Sony exclusives to the Microsoft ones (not declaring X-field sucks, only a personal selection). I had an previous white "fat" X-field 360 which finally were given the pink Ring of death, yet from what I understand they have mounted the topics with the hot "slender" style.

Yep, you definitely need an external radiator. I suggest one from a ford, maybe a 56 De soto.
