We tend to forget the real meaning of Christmas for many reasons, but primarily, for Christians, we forget because we are people that like to express who we are with money. Buying gifts can be a good way of showing true friendship and compassion, yet Christmas has become, for many people, a time of grossly over-spending, and working paycheck to paycheck the next 12 months paying off the credit cards! For some people, this could possibly be their way of expressing themselves and their compassion, since they have no time for such mushy feelings the rest of the year, or possibly the guilt of not visiting and sharing life with loved ones that has become spiritually heavy and this is their way of unloading that guilt! We lose focus on the genuine purpose of Christmas, which is to help hurting, needy and downtrodden people in this world, thereby offering a reflection of the presence of Christ in our lives! Also, we must understand, that there are many different ways that people exchange gifts at Christmas, and not all of them are Christ related. The only persons experiencing the real Christmas are believers of the birth of Christ and Christian doctrine, since Christmas is only important to Christians, and not those who claim to be non-believers or Atheists! For non-Christains, gift exchange is simply a material act that satisfies the need for a more complete material life. I do believe that everyone has a good feeling when they give gifts to others, even though the purpose is not identifiable to the true purpose of the season, whether Christians or non-Christian!
There are many who share the fun, laughter and good spirits without a clue as to the real purpose of the season of Christmas.

Mostly its a PC thing. There are a lot of christmas specials out for TV shows and in order to not offend any one they have to make it non religious. So they pretend the meaning of christmas is being with family and friends and who can buy the best gifts. They have been doing that so long people just get absorbed in it.

All most people think about is getting gifts for Christmas. My family knows the real reason for Christmas and we read the story of the birth of Jesus out of the Bible every Christmas with everyone gathered around the fireplace. To me this is what it is all about and family being together.

i know what you mean. it is so easy to get caught up in the wanting of gifts. i think there is two real meanings of christmas. the religious one, and the gift one. i think that the real meaning of chirstmas that has to do with gifts is singing fun songs and being with family and giving the ones you love gifts, not because they are expecting them, but becuase you love them. for me christmas is a wonderful time of the year. i get so happy, i love the decorations, i love opening gifts-even if the boxes were filled with tissue paper or even nothing. i just find it fun. of course i enjoy the gifts but i enjoy the family, the cheer, the giving, the spirit, the music, the decor, and all of that kind of stuff much more.

Happy Holidays!!

I know that Christmas is about Jesus birth and some people get confused and think that Christmas is about Santa close or presents. If is Jesus birthday then we should give a present to Jesus. Is sad that sometimes some people make parties to celebrate Christmas that means"Jesus birthday" but they don`t even invite him to his own birthday and forget about him. That`s why i think is because they get confused.

The news gets on TV every evening and tells you how much to spend for Xmas. They also show the mass hysteria at the malls like you should be a part of that. It's sad.
