Green doesn't work to the normal dominant/recessive gene system. It can be recessive or it can combine with other colours. In your family, your father has blue+blue genes (as blue is recessive to all other colours, he has to have got one blue from each parent) while your mother has brown+green genes (brown from one parent, green from the other). You therefore have blue (from father)+green (from mother) genes and the green has taken the dominant role, as if you had brown (mother)+blue (father) genes you'd have brown eyes and probably wouldn't have asked the question, as brown is dominant over all other colours...

Me too! Basically what that poster said about the dominant gene taking over the recessive gene was right. Since our dads both have blue eyes our mom's hazel dominant gene was passed to us but the blue from our dad's modified it slightly to a lighter shade of hazel (green).

I think that green eyes are most attractive and unusual.. My daughter has green eyes, mine are brown and my husbands were blue. Don't know how it happens that eye colours vary.

genetics think of it as family tree
mum:- your grandmother green, your grandad blue
dad:- your grandmother green, your grandad blue
and it can go back like a family tree but its kept in genes and if both parents have it in genes there's the rare chance it'll happhen
