For as long as you live. I needed mine when I reached 62 so I could apply for his social security. Does not matter how many times you marry. Only how many years. and When my mother reached 83 I needed all her papers to file for army benefits from my step dad, and a lot of other misc. stuff. They are on file in the court house but digging Thur papers down there and paying to get a copy is a hassle. Just put them up in a lock box and forget about them until your very old. If your a guy and the wife makes more money than you and she dies before you , you could get her ss instead of your. Yipee...Thats what I did.

Till death you die. Keep them, you may have to get a copy later . There are several things that you might need to get done and will need proof . One is when you retired, draw social security, you will have to have proof of the divorce and a copy of the marriage license for each and every time you have been married and divorced. Besides , why throw them out, bet that piece of paper cost you more money than your car. lol just joking.

I would suggest that you hang onto them until you are certain you no longer need it. I.e. your ex has remarried at least 2 more times. If your divorce papers have anything in them like dates your kids see you, then you'll need to keep them until your children reach 18 and are no longer bound on that contract.
Personally, because I know people, I would keep it until your ex is no longer in the picture, that way you don't have anything to worry about, especially since your lawyer will shred all of your documents in 10 years.

Forever. There are so many situations that come up where you need to provide copies. Buying a house, life insurance issues. I've been divorced for years and still find myself needing to provide copies to someone.

I still have the ones from my divorce from my first husband in 1957. You need one little fireproof box for papers like this. Put birth records, deeds, baptismal records. And especially insurance papers.

Forever. They're legal documents, and you never know when you'll need them again (get remarried, prove divorce if his finances go downhill, insurance reasons, etc). Just lock them in a safe.

Keep them until your children are of age. Better yet, don't get rid of them at all. There may be a problem later and you will have the paperwork to back it up.

I threw mine out the day I got them. I just didn't want them in my house.
In the unlikely event I ever need them I can always send away for them.
