I would say that I don't have favorite books, so much as favorite authors. I was a precocious child, and started reading at three, and many of my childhood favorites were not children's books. My favorite author since I was seven has been JRR Tolkien. I read everything he wrote. I love fantasy in general, and though I am told Harry Potter is for children, I don't believe it. I will always love Harry Potter! I like Orson Scott Card as well. The classics cannot ignore either, Dickens, Austen, Shakespeare, etc. I suppose I read from all genres, but for me, though I am not out of college,Tolkien has lasted forever.

The Lord of the Rings(Tolkien), Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion(Austen), All the Sherlock Holmes books, all the Agatha Christie books, and pretty much anything about female detectives, amateur or pro (Marcia Muller, Sue Grafton, Mary Daheim, Jill Churchill, MC Beaton) and when I was a young girl I especially liked the Little House on the Prairie series

My favorite book of all is a children's book called "Love You Forever", I bought it and read it to my oldest son when he was small, It's such a moving and tale of the love of mother and child, and later in the book it's repeats the story and in reverse because now the son is taking care of her. I had the book and read it to all of my boys, then I lost it in a fire, so when My youngest son was in the 1st grade he found it in the library at school, and started copying it word for word in his notebook, to give to me for Christmas of '96., which ofcourse was the best gift I could have ever had. Then 5 years ago, he found it at a book store, and gave it to me for Mother's day.
