Chocolate_cat, forget about all the answers above. These people are wrong. I'm right. You want to know how much you should pay in expenses proportional to your income. 1,080 divided by 3880 is 0.2783505. So you owe 27.83505 % of the $868 needed in expenses. Take $868 and multiply it by 0.2783505, this will equal $241.61. The $241.61 is how much YOU owe. To figure up how much HE owes take $868 minus the $241.61. This will equal $626.39. To summarize YOU owe $241.61, HE owes $626.39.

O.K. I am so not a math genius. But if you each pay about 20 percent of your monthly income (so, $560 for him, $360 for you) , then you should be able to more than make your expenses with about $50 left over (for unforeseen extras?).
By basing your calculations on a percentage, you both make an equivalent (and thus, fair) contribution toward your living expenses.
Make sure you keep a separate savings account (always good for a woman -- and a man -- to have her/his very own money!). And don't let anybody tell you that you should pay more. Even in the "civilized", forward-thinking western world, women are NOT paid the same salary as a man in the same job. Until that situation is rectified, women should not be expected to contribute the same amount of money!

Based on income, which is your stated conditions, you would pay $241.61 (((1080/3880)*100%)*868). Your boy friend would pay $626.39 (((2800/3880)*100%)*868). That is your/his income, divided by the combined income, times 100 % to get the percentage of income each brings to the table, times the total expenses to determine how many dollars each owes each month.

You and Him Both pay $434.00 each which is 50% of all the bills. You get this by taking 868 and divide by 2 which become 434 this is half of the bills or 50%

Because what you make is 28% ((1080/3880) multiplied by a hundred)of your combined earnings, your boyfriend's is 72% ((2800/3880) multiplied by a hundred) you should pay that much of your living expenses. That turns out to be $234.04 a month for you and $633.96 for your boyfriend. I hope this helps you both out.

Assuming you have agreed to split expenses in proportion with your earnings, you should pay about 28% of the expenses. He would pay 72%.
I would suggest you round off to either 70-30 or 75-25, depending on who is more generous.

yeah, you pay half and he pays half, but if you want to be a greedy wench he makes approximately 2 1/2 times you do so 2 1/2 time of 250 is 625 plus your share is 625+250=875 so rent is paid and you either need to be going to night school or spreading your legs for your man every night and anything else he asks cause he's taking care of you.
