I so don't have the patience for those crowds - I prefer to wait for the crowds to diw down a little bit.

Going to the January sales can be a good idea and a way of savings lots of money. However, to be successful at this you need to be organised as a team - of at least three or four people working together.
Okay, so team member A wants a fur coat. Team members B, C and D work with A to get coat.
If you're team are buying lots of small items you'll need to think about where to put all of these while still buying. Split your team into two halves. Two of you guarding the 'swag' while the other two team members grab more of what's going cheap.
Good luck at the sales but do not waste your time sleeping out overnight just because there's a fur coat in the window going for £50.

Actually Poppy this is a great misconception that consumers have about retail and shopping. Everyone thinks that retailers have a big sale after Christmas to get rid of all the stuff that they didnt sell so they will have less inventory and better numbers when their year ends. This is simply not true. You have know a companies fiscal year and when it ends. For example if a company has a fiscal year from March to April then they will have better sales at the end of April than any other time. Other than that the best time to buy something is when that item is in its off season. You can buy coats cheapest in the summer time. Sunglasses in hte winter, and gas on weekdays other than friday (prices always rise friday sat and sun because most people do their traveling on the weekends. Tuesday is the best day to fill up).

I usually buy a pair of shoes in January. I can usually find something at a reduced price. I think the sales are worth a look because the odd bargain is more predictably apt to find during January than almost every other part of the year.
The exception is the pre-Thanksgiving sales. Those are the best.

I go straight away for the best bargains, but nowhere that will be absolutely packed.
I've asked for money from some people for Xmas to spend in the January sales, but I always ask for actually items as well so I've got something to open from everyone on Christmas day.

The second week of january is the best, all is on sale and there is still plenty of good stuff left. My favorite time of year. I got a 150.00 gap leather coat for like 35.00 once.
