1080/3880 is your percent
2800/3880 is his percent

Your dollars is: (1080/3880) * 868
Your dollars is: (2800/3880) * 868

assuming you are doing an equal percent of income calculation.

Wow, shows how old I am. When I was your age, people would graduate from high school before they even thought about moving in with their boyfriend. It was a better system too, since under that system women would have at least some education and thus be able to make more than minimum wage, which enabled them to support themselves if they had to move out because (as often occurred) their boyfriend turned out to be a complete ***.

The scary part is, I was your age just half a decade ago (that's 5 years, in case you don't know what a decade is). I mean, I really expected to be out of college before I had to start complaining about the habits of modern youth, and acting smug and condescending toward them. Is the world really degenerating so quickly?

Anyway, you set this up as a proportion: the ratio of what you earn to the total income should be the same as the ratio of what you pay to your total expenses. This means that if you divide your earnings by the total income, you should get the same number as if you divide your payment by the total expenses. If you label your payment as x, this means that:

1080/3880 = x/868

Multiplying both sides by 868:

x=1080/3880 * 868

Actually doing the arithmetic, and rounding to the nearest cent, you owe $241.61 per month. The portion of the expenses that you pay is by definition x/868, which is (per the first equation) 1080/3880, which is approximately 0.27835 . Expressed as a percentage, this is 27.835%. All the % sign means is that this is a fraction with a denominator of 100 - you can easily see that if you divide 27.835 by 100, you will get 27.835. To find the percentage equivalent of a fraction, all you do is divide the numerator by the denominator (the numerator is the top part of the fraction, and the denominator is the bottom part of the fraction), and then multiply the resulting decimal by 100. You can see why this gives you the correct percentage: 100*x% means 100*x/100, and dividing 100*x by 100 leaves you with the original value x.

By the way, I would recommend going back and studying the mathematics that you apparently learned inadequately during elementary school. Problems like this are going to come up quite often in real life (filled out any tax forms lately?), and you will have to be prepared for them. I'll give you a couple of links to websites that should help you get started, but you really should get yourself a tutor if at all possible.

One other question - what kind of mathematics curriculum did you have, that caused you to think this was the sort of problem someone in 9th grade would have trouble with?

I assume you are making the assumption that the percentage you should pay toward expenses is the same as the percentage of the combined income that you earn. Not everybody would agree with splitting things up that way. But for the sake of the math problem:

Ratio = 1080 / (1080 + 2800) = 1080 / 3880 = 0.2783505
Percentage = 100 * Ratio = 27.83505%

Your Share of Expenses = 0.2783505 * $868 = $241.61

I think you should both pay 50%, so $434 each. If you are basing things on amount made compared to amount owed each month, 2800+1080=3880. 2800/3880=72.2% for him and 1080/3880=27.8% for you. Now multiply each of these to the total amount of expenses, 0.722*$868=$626.70 for him and for you it's 0.278*$868=$241.30. Make sense?

2800 + 1080 = 3880

2800/3880 * 100 = 72.1%

1080/3880 * 100 = 27.9%

0.721 * 868 = $625.83

0.279 * 868 = $242.17

Your boyfriend pays $625.83, you pay $242.17

Since you make $1080 out of $3880, that means are making 27.84% of the home income. Thus, you should be paying $241.65 for the monthly expenses.

The slope is like the attitude or course of the graph. the upward push back, is the course of going up and the run is horizontal move, and the slope relies upon of the upward push and run because that's what provides it a slope. that is so because if there replaced into no upward push yet only a run, it might basically be a undeniable previous horizontal immediately line. And if it replaced into basically an develop, then it might basically be a vertical line. yet with both, it creates an attitude. desire I helped!

Get married. Shouldn't be living with your boyfriend. When you get married this question would never or should never be an issue.
