,I don't think life is all about goals but it helps to have direction and to keep moving in that general direction. I look at goals as 3 prongs (a person might have more or less). There are social goals (how many friends do you want to have). Personal goals (like spiritual goals, how many times do you want to go to church in a year), and professional goals (much money do you want to make, and what kind of job do you want in the future). I think it is good to have numerous goals. Goals come for me in two levels realistic and obtainable (This year I am going to lose 10 pounds) and obtainable and unrealistic (In 2012 I am going to run for President). You should always have goals it might be just getting to work on time everyday or staying on budget at lunch everyday in a week. Goals make life fun. When you reach one nothing compares to the feeling of accomplishment. Life is not all about goals I think life is what happens in between. Don't miss the forest for the trees.

Life is NOT all about setting goals. Life is all about helping other people reach their goals.
As Zig Zigler said in his series, Secrets of Closing the Sale, You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want. A perfect example is to look at the reason for the success of most products on the market.
Microsoft for instance, since the explosion of the internet, people had a hard time going online or using the computer. Microsoft created products that made it easier for people to log on to thier computer, go online, and store and retrieve files.
They got what they wanted by helping others get what they wanted. This also goes to follow-up on what Jesus said, love thy neighbor as thy love thyself.
So the first place to begin is to find a common problem. Then make your goal; solving that problem.
Hope this answers your question!
A business sucess depends on its ability fulfill a need or solve a problem.

Start by setting the goal of who you want to be and what you will consider important. Define yourself and how you want to relate to the world. The rest of your goals will be self defining as you work toward that goal. Good luck.

Start small and achievable Then compete with yourself to achieve more. The more you become accustomed to setting goals and achieving them, the more exciting it becomes to set the bar a little higher.
Good luck!
