You do not need to click remember "each folders settings" if you want all the folders to be the same. It will not reset when you reboot. You only need to use "remember each folders settings" if you want to have different settings for different folders.

Some of the answers you had so far is ok but whatever change you make won't stick because at the next window boot it will revert back. This is what you need to do to make sure the change is permanent: Choose the view in details. open Windows explorer select Tools, Folder options, select the View tab, Click Apply to all folders AND the next step is what people is missing : in the Advanced settings below it you want to scroll down the list and put a checkmark in a box that say " Remember each folder's view settings".

You set the change permanently and in all windows. In Windows 2000 SE (which I use), although there should be something similar in most versions:

Open any folder and set you how you like it from the View menu. Then in the Tools menu, select "Folder options" and select the View tab. Click on the button "Like Current Folder" and all your folders will now automatically open with that view style!

Never be afraid to click on menu options and buttons that you don't know what they do and see what it does! If it is anything drastic then Windows will ask you if you are sure - make sure you understand what Windows is telling you and you are happy about it before saying yes!

Happy computing!

When you've changed the folder you're in to the way you like it, go to the Tools menu, select Options, click the View tab and click Apply to All Folders.
