I haven't had my period for a while now. I took a pregnancy test when I was five days late and it was negative. I'm only 19 so I know I'm not going through menopause. I have always had normal periods before. I am not stressed or doing anything differently. Is this normal? Could I possibly be infertile? I am just worried.

I'm a nurse. This isn't normal. Either the test isn't accurate or you are indeed stressed and didn't realize it. You need to see a doctor. Either way this is a serious thing you speak of. Please follow my advice. Even if it's neither of these things it's something and needs to be taken care of right away. Your blood has to be going somewhere, but where?

cycles change. I used to have them regularly then around your age stopped having them monthly then went normal again and then slowed down again. Take another pregnancy test in about 5-7 days from your last test. Take it first thing in the morning. If still negative just enjoy your time off, but if you have any pain in the abdomen you see a doctor immediatley to make sure you do not have a tubal pregnancy. As long as you have no pain and still get a negative result you are just fine.

There are some reasons why a young women would stop having her period. One is low or high weight. If you are underweight or significantly overweight, your period could stop showing up. Other reasons are more serious, like fertility problems and STD's. Go here to learn more about your fertility:
http://www.fertilityfriend.com/
(It's a site about conception, but can help you too)

And here to learn more about STD's:

(Get tested if you think this might be the problem)

On the other hand, while rare, some women do stop having their periods for no reason. So don't be too concerned. Just be aware that it could be a indication of something and pay attention to your body and other symptoms.

first of all, you can't take a pregnancy test until after 2 weeks after a missed period. how do i know? i went to the clinic after i was like a week late and thats what the doctor said. she also said that 2 weeks is still a little early. i recommend you take it again in 2 weeks if you still dont get it. and another possible reason is that (if you are) taking the same brand of birth control pills for a while. that'll stop your period, thats what my doctor thinks is happening to me. i havent had a period since october. but im not pregnant. hope this helps! :D
