It's just i don't really want to make any mistakes as i've never had a hamster before!!! Can someone let me know that everything's ok!!! She seems happy is always running about and she is generally very active!!! It's just this bar chewing that is bothering me!!! Anyone have any advice???

That's very normal, i had a hamster before.Hamsters teeth grow longer if they don't chew on something hard, just go to the pet store in the hamster section and they will have little blocks of wood some of them are flavored(but my hamster did not like those ones)and some are not.If you buy those, just put one block in her cage and she will chew on that instead of the cage bars.If they do not have those blocks at the pet store, you can just get a small piece of wood(make sure you wash it first!)and put that in her cage.Hope this helps!

I have hamster and she always chews on the cage bars. She's been doing it forever, and it never seems to hurt her any. Give the hamster a baby carrot. That will preoccupy her. My hamster found out how to open her cage door while chewing once. After that I put her cage door facing the wall. You might want to try this. I would hate for Amber to escape. Hope you two have a Merry Christmas.

this is a very normal behaviour for small rodents such as hamsters to do. I t has two sides to it. the good side is that it is keeping its teeth down to a resonable size since rodents teeth always grow and the bad side is that it may bug people and it wears down the cage. I suggest you buy it two dollar wooden carrots from a pet store, or if you are willing to spend the money and if there is enough room in the cage, buy it a wooden house or play set. I have a guineapig and it loves it. Have a Merry Christmas

Its normal for hamsters to do this as they are trying to grind their teeth down. Make sure the hamster has something to chew on from a pet shop.

its normal. they chew on alot of things in the wild so there teeth have to grow faster than alot of other animals. so its just wearing down its teeth. which is a good thing because if it didnt then they would get way to long, which would be a problem. you can give it other things though like vegitable wheels so it can chew on that insted. i mean if it is making alot of noise and stuff the wheel might be a better idea. hope you have a good whatching it though. and merry christmas/channaka[sorry i dont know how to spell it]!

Sounds like Amber is hungry! Is there enough food for her? If so maybe she is bored. Let her out of her cage and run around for a bit. Maybe this will help entertain her and keep from bothering you.

it's normal but it means that the hamster is bored - why not get a hamster ball for it to run around in - that pretty much wears them out - they're cheap and your girlfriend will be pleased that you care

NO NO NO NO NO!! Well, it is normal but it ISN'T HEALTHY!! The teeth can get screwed up and it could die tell ur g/f to let u get it a tank or something (but if u do don't put it directly under a light or it will cause the greenhouse affect)...

The hamster is trying to communicate with you - and tell you what it has seen your girlfriend doing with other guys :)
