I think it's mean that someone answered your question and made fun of you! Gay is an old English word for happy as everyone else has already told you! Therefore Don ye now your gay apparel meant put on your celebratory clothes - clothes that you feel festive and fun and happy in. Obviously it has now lost that meaning in today's vernacular. This is partly because the language has just evolved a bit and we use other words to describe things (just like slang comes in and then it goes out) and also because homosexuals way back when adopted it to describe their sexual orientation.

Cheers!! :)

Gay apparel is cheery clothing, like your Sunday best or your party clothes. Don is another word for to put on, so the line "Now we don our gay apparel means, it's time to get on our best rags! And I'm wearing a nice party type dress, that doesn't belong to Don, and is very gay, meaning happy or cheerful, like the word gay use to mean.

I'm assuming you're a girl from your avatar, so forgive me as I say: Girl, you have the wrong definition of gay for this song. "Don we now our gay apparel" means happy clothes, not homosexual clothes. It's that old of a song. Or should I say "This songe is olde as that."

When guys wear girly clothes, pink, stuff like that. I think though.

Well, in reality gay means 'happy'. Homosexuals took that name and used it.

Gay apparel (in other countries which is the correct way) - happy style of clothes.

"Gay" in this context doesn't mean "homosexual" nor is "happy" quite right either. "Gay apparel" translates best into the modern vernacular as "festive clothing." I assume that means those ugly Christmas sweaters that your aunt gives you every year.

in the time period when that song was written, the word gay was not typically used to refer to homosexuality. In it's more common meaning gay means happy or glad. Thus the song refers to dressing up in one's finest duds and going out to enjoy the season.
