I went to the doctor to get treated for a yeast infection. He said the area looks raw then prescribed me Diflucan. I didn't think about it until after I left the office, but what exactly does it mean to have a raw vagina due to a yeast infection?

The yeast makes your skin dry. It often gets red and cracks. You could also be scratching too much. Either way, don't listen to these people making jokes. Most women experience a yeast infection sometime in their lives. The word raw means the skin is cracking. Diflucan gets rid of the yeast infection, but you could also go to walmart and get some vagisil for relief of symptoms immediately. It helps with itching. Try not to scratch too much. Hope you get well soon.

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:

Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.

If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

The "yeast" is a fungus that every woman has growing in their vagina. Vaginae are normally acidic. This makes them inhospitable to most bacteria and fungi and keeps it clean. Sometimes, the acidity changes or some other condition lets things get a bit out of control. This causes irritation and can spread to your urethra and cause a bladder infection.

All he meant was that your skin is extremely irritated around the area.....much like if you had a skin infection any where else on your body. No big deal, just take plenty of baths to clean the area but don't use bubble bath and use a bar of soap for sensitive skin.

I assume it means your not wet there instead having the infection is causing you to be dry.

You seriously don't know what raw skin is? The skin inside your vagina is raw. Like burnt from the infection. That's why you burn and itch so much down there.
