The ONLY reason its on the box is to generate money. If all the morons who watch it and ring in were to STOP. . . then it wouldn't make money and it would be taken off and - hopefully- replaced by something - anything- that was watchable.

Unfortunately, many media owners are having to result to this kind of money generating scheme
Advertising revenue has been on the slide over the last 5 years in both radio and television, forcing radio stations and tv stations to seek alternative means of funding. There is an expectation from the public for the likes of ITV to keep delivering television that just gets better and better, but this comes at a cost.
With the introduction of systems such as sky plus, more and more viewers are fast forwarding through the ads, making the medium less attractive to potential advertisers - hence more companies sponsoring shows instead.
Revenue generation through the public started with all the reality TV shows - the first big brother raised money through votes for shelter - now I think they profit all the money.
Shows like X Factor, Big Brother, Love Island all make money from phone and text votes.
This concept developed and now we find a lot of the tv channels running late night revenue generating programmes.
Funnily enough, one of the people who co-created the ITV premium rate comp show Quizmania is it's presenter Debbie King who is the girlfriend of G4 singer Jonathan Ansell

the ultimate reason is it generates al ot of money for ITV and as advertising revenues are down they need it. Advertisers will not use the nightime schedule as not enough people watch but the mint plays on peoples greed at the end of the day by charging callers whether they get through or not

Oh man, it was okay at first... special guests, they actually let people attempt to crack the safe. But it fast became a pile of money raking crap.
I hope they take it off aswell, ITV2's "Play Date" is alot more entertaining... when they have decent presenters.
How i long for the days of late night Jerry Springer.

I totally agree! And while we are on the subject of quiz programmes, i have freeview and i hate the fact that after midnight there are quiz things on both the music channels (The Hits and TMF)! It is so frustrating becuase they really are taking over!
