Just keep on laughing all of you because a third party will have a very good 08 election both Presidential and General. If you can be informed, you'll be surprised. The Constitution party has a former Republican mayor, the Libertarians have Bob Barr, a former Republican Congressman and the Greens won the mayor race in Richmond,CA. Any of these 3 parties would be able to kick the duopoly in the shin but later they'll kick them in the crotch. I think that there might be a Libertarian/Constitution/Green alliance or something like that. It will be 16 years after Perot's shocking run and his 19% and 40 years after Wallace's scary run and his 46 Electoral votes and 13.5%. I think the Libertarians have a good chance to do very well in 08 if they shift some of their issues to the middle. But I hope I don't have to vote against the Democrats because they were the first ones I liked and feel that represent me. But now I'm in the middle. Come on people, let's all make a difference and make the 08 election a very energizing one and not a boring one. Happy Holidays to all!

Very true. The two big Republican names are nowhere near a Bush-type Republican.
McCain is more moderate, and has only recently moved more right, in an effort to pick up the vote from Bush supporters. If he'd go back, and stay away from supporting the President's policies, then he's got a strong chance.
Giuliani is even more moderate, even to the point of being liberal, and could draw in a LOT of votes from swing voters, independents, and conservative Democrats alike. If current trends continue for the next two years, Giuliani will become THE person to beat.
Another name being thrown around is Mitt Romney, outgoing Governor of Massachusetts. He's more conservative, and could get a lot of strong Bush-supporter votes, but by looking at the President's current poll numbers, there's not a lot of votes there for Romney to play with.
My guess is either McCain or Giuliani to get GOP nod in '08.

scouse borrow the election? If the republicans win because of the fact people vote them in it is going to likely be a step up from the present management in congress, Nancy Pelopsi became a ok minority chief yet a terrible majority chief, its been years because of the fact the Democrats have somewhat stood mutually on a real platform, and its been very very nearly each 365 days that the Republicans have, in case you look the U.S. has a record low unenployment fee and a helpful distant places coverage of protecting the U.S. as a replace of letting our enemies improve. flow learn information no longer rhetoric, and end spewing hate and listening to steriotyping then possibly you will learn some thing

If Rudy is the candidate the GOP will win between 350 - 400 Electoral College votes. The Dems will be forced back into their 1988 strongholds.
if Hilary is the Dem candidate I can see a wipeout on the scale of Walter Mondale.

A Republican can win, but it won't be anyone closely associated with the current administration.
The most likely candidates are McCain (a moderate), Rudy Guliani (a moderate), and Mitt Romney, a more conservative candidate, but he won the governorship in Massachusetts, so he must be doing something right.
Their chances increase if Hilary Clinton wins the Dems nomination because she is by far one of the most polarizing figures in politics today.

I think it is the Democrats election to lose. They have to spell out their agenda in detail not attack attack attack. People are sick and tired of dirty politics. They want spcifics not generalities. They want more than they are getting from their elected officials but I am sure it will be the same as usual. The party that runs a clean and policy driven campaign will win If the Democrats do that they will prevail.

geesh, I hope not.
But, I'm afraid if our party elects Hillary or Obama as our candidate, we can only hope to lose.
People already know whether or not they like Clinton ... and their minds are NOT going to change. She could walk on water and turn water into wine and half the county is still going to hate her. IMO, she's just like Lieberman - a Republican who runs on Democratic Party funds. And Obama is simply not experienced enough to be the leader of the free world (though I like him, and hope he runs in '12).
But we still have almost two years. Hopefully, the great Democrat saviour is going to pop up in the near future!
phinzup12.: do you really think that Hillary is more polarizing that G.W.????

it depends who's running for each party, surely. no republican who has supported bush can win, but a democrat can still lose it.
