You can ask others for ideas for a writing topic, however, really the best thing to do is to write about what YOU know. You are the only person with your point of view, and that will go a long way to making a great & unique essay. That being said, how about an essay on what inspired you to post this question, the responses/how you felt about them and ultimately what you decided to do? :)

I say whats not a good writing topic?

I read an article today about the climate change that is going to change our lives drastically over the next several years. If you are writing an informative/expository essay, then I would recommend this topic. If you are writing a persuasive essay, then how about talking about the reasons why we should care about this issue....Al Gore's recent movie would be a good place to start for an interesting perspective....

In past generations people communicated socially in ways that are much different than today.
1940's families lived in close proximity and were able to get together with family and friends over dinner and discuss the topics of the day.
1960's everyone had a telephone and spent hours on the phone.
2000's people talk constantly on the phone but more important is how, though venues like Yahoo Answers people from all over the world can communicate and discuss topics instantly. Today's social network is much different than a generation ago.
Title of paper: The evolution of social communications through technology.

i think you should write about something controversial, though something that you are really interested in.
for example, i've always had a love for horses and i've been showing horses nationally for about three years now. obviously, i've become even more in love with horses. when i had to start thinking of topics for my mid-term paper last year, i got an idea, by flipping through the channels, i fell upon past horse races.
it was then i decided to write about the "drugs, deception, and death," of horse racing and my opposition, backing it up with additional research.
so, basically, my suggestion is that you write about something controversial and what you believe and include a lot of support.
good luck.

Something you are passionate about. I would write about a law from another country that you believe should be implemented in your country. You could go into specific details and use resources that show the success/failures it has had already.
There are so many political and environmental issues to choose from as well. Good luck!

You could pose as a homeless person on the streets of San Francisco for 30 days and write about your resulting experiences.

I'd write about 3 Doors Down, my favorite rock band. Try something you love and would enjoy writing about.
