Get up from the computer and take your son to a doctor! If it lasts more than a week, he should be seen by a professional. Don't expect us losers to diagnose your son via the internet.

Is it a dry cough..did you just turn on your heat recently. It could be allergies. If he doesn't have any other symptoms of an illness he might not need antibiotics. He might be better off with a humidfier or even a nebulizer. Again I don't know all of his symptoms though. Doctors are very quick to give out antibiotics these days. I'm not a fan of this. I would give your son the medicine but perhaps get a second opinion. Keep an eye on it. Did you take him to the doctor earlier and he.she wanted to wait before introducing antibiotics?

Give him the antibiotics NOW! This is the worst time of year for young children to develop respiratory conditions - often starting with a cough. I speak from experience, my son had bronchiolitis at 10 months and it was horrendous. Lots of visits to doctor, childrens a&e. Never left anything to chance and ensured we took medical advice every time he was unwell. However, at 14 months he contracted a virus that resulted in respiratory arrest due to his weak respiratory condition. Thankfully we were in hospital when this happened. He's now nearly 4 and will not totally recover for another few years (lungs can repair themselves over a period of time). Don't take any chances with a child who's so young. We still use antibiotics as and when our son's cough gets bad. Best to be safe than sorry. Hope he gets over it soon, but please listen to the doctor and give the antibiotics!

Yes a month is too long for a cough. My sons pediatrician always told me that if they have a cough longer than 2 weeks they need to be looked at. But, during the first 2 weeks, if they don't have any other symptoms, just treat the symptoms like you would a cold. (tylenol cold, run the humidifier, etc.) If she did give him an antibiotic, then yes you need to give it to him.

I agree you need to get a 2d opinion. My son had a chilly that lasted for like 2 months and it replaced into poor. at the same time as it replaced into interior the superb 2 weeks he replaced into snotty and runny nostril also. Does your son have any allergic reactions...if that is unknown i'd seek for suggestion from with your Ped about it. If not then a 2d opinion is completely ideal. you may completely like and believe your Ped, yet mommy knows superb. If the 2d opinion is the same as your ped. then a minimum of to procure the 2d opinion. you need to continually take your toddler to a diverse medical institution that you're feeling is larger via the ER yet this would run into some money, yet i trust that mommy knows superb and that's more beneficial to be secure than sorry! good success!

She may be trying to prevent the cough from turning into something worse like whooping cough.
I'd say give it to him. If there are no signs of improvement in a 2 or 3 days call her back or get a second opinion.

Yes, have your child take all of the medication as prescribed.
Amoxicillin is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia; bronchitis. Don't get your child hospitalized or worse because you did not give your son his prescribed medication.
These type of illnesses can be much more serious with children

not sure he needs it unless there is an ear infection but better safe than sorry. also my bro-in-law as a child had a terrible cough and as an adult he found out he had a heart condition. and eventually had to have open heart surgery. be safe and pay attention to the duration and type of cough it is. good luck and happy holidays=)
do not want to scare you just wanted you to know the possibilities. much prayers for you and your family.

I would trust your doctor (or get a second opinion). Giving a diagnosis vía Yahoo Answers would be an irresponsible thing to do. Specially without the whole info.
Hope your kid gets healthy soon.
