The wait is precautionary. The Shuttle must be examined for hazardous gases and other substances before the astronauts are allowed to leave it. In other words, they don't want any surprises.

the astronauts dont really wait for two hours to get off the space shuttle, during those two hours they are shutting down the systems and other things that have been used for flight. and all the while getting used to feeling gravity again.

There body has to get use to the weight on earth. And to be able to breath the oxygen as well. Maybe grow a few inches again (LOL). But hey once they get off u c doctors and a whole lot of people running to them. Up there they don't have gravity and they need help to walk a few a hours too. Hope i helped a little

In space your heart just cost even with the exercise that they go through. The heart needs a little time to adjust to the load caused by gravity. The longer u are up the harder it is on u.

I think they have to go through some procedure because they have been in space and the different environment than on Earth. The procedure probably gets them adjusted to being back on Earth so they don't do something like faint or something worse than that.

It takes a period of time before the temperature on the heat tiles of the skin cool down, plus there is always the risk of fire and danger of toxic fumes from the engines.

comeing from zero gravity to gravity will it you hard they have to be disconnected from the chairs they where sitting in and checked by a dr. not to mention the g force the put up with getting back to earth. its about the limit for a human. to put it simple you just cant get back up after that hits you

In out space, there is no gravity. When they return, they have to get accustomed to gravity again.
