According to MSN Encarta, the hours of daylight vary depending on your position on the planet (measured in longitude and latitude) relative to the sun. The number of hours during the day is calculated as the period between the rising and setting of the sun. It does not include the period of twilight before and after sunrise and sunset. So the approximate number of daylight hours in Miami for the month of December is 10.5 hours. The approximate number of daylight hours for Seattle is 8.5 hours for the month of December.
