I want wi-fi, cd-rom, some way to download music to ipod(not necessarily that brand name). I don't play games, but I do use a lot of open windows at one time. At home I have cable broadband, and want to use the laptop while someone else uses another computer. The cable company has supplied a sharkfin looking device.

Is dual core processor the way to go?

They all seem to have so many options, and I will not be playing games, but want to run music in background.

Also, I am unsure about buying online, because I am worried about technical support.

This is someone else's Y!A account, but I want to use this and several other websites at the same time.

I would have to say the laptop I have. An Hp Pavilion ze2000. It was about 700 i think and it has a wireless card pre installed into it, two usb ports, a cd and dvd rom drive. It really just depends on what you are looking for. By the way, Dual Processors to me don't have a big effect, keep your computer virus free, with Norton or something, be cautious what you download and it is up to you from there.

I was looking for a laptop under $1000 a few months ago, and I wanted to stay away from crappy celerons. Ended up with a Dell Inspiron for $579. Picked it up at a local Dell outlet (Colorado) called Tech for Less. 1.8 gig proc, 512 ram, cd/dvd rom, 15' screen, wireless internet. So far, so good.

Dell inspiron. dual core processor is the way to go. trust me. and this lap top is my dream. my uncle has it and it is fantastic. you don't have to charge it for like three-six hours. it doesn't heat up really quickly. and it has great resolution and technology. it is also only 699.00. plus, it is a dell and they have great tech support. if not inspiron, dell is still the way to go...it is a great company.
