Failing to appear is an automatic reason for a bench warrant. Better to turn yourself in to a police division/precinct near you.

It is a good idea to do it yourself, as if a warrant is put out for your arrest and you are brought to court in custody, things could turn nasty and you might well be refused bail for whatever offence it was you were appearing on in the first place. (I'm assuming that it is a criminal offence as opposed to not having a TV licence or driving without insurance.) I don't think that you would be seen as having any rights other than to have the duty solicitor argue for bail on your behalf. You would apply for any warrant issued against you to be withdrawn, but the court would do that in its own interests anyway. You should have a very good excuse for failing to appear, as the normal thing is to prefer a charge against you under the Bail Act.

You don;t have rights--but if you go turn yourself in and it's not a felony charge that you were originally charged with, they may recall the arrest warrant and give you a new court date--that's which would save everyone money. Next time, show up for Court. You don't want it to get even worse than it already is. Good luck.

If you failed to appear and a warrant was issued for you arrest and you surrendered yourself to custody, firsly the police would have to arrest you (only because the law says that proceedure has to happen) and if the warrant has bail, you will be bailed to attend court on a new date. If it is a "NO BAIL" warrant you will be put in a police cell until the next court session and taken to court, where your case will either be heard or you will be remnded in custody or on bail.

You will receive some recognition for surrendering to custody, especially if you can prove there was a resone for your original failing to attend

There will probable be a warrant for your arrest out, if I was you i'd hand myself in or at least 'phone the police station explain and ask what is the best thing to do.
Otherwise you may get a 6am visit and a ride to the police station.
Good Luck.

goto the police station and talk to the desk sargeant. if youve got a good reason for missing your date, and hes in a good mood, and you dont pish him off, he will just redo the process papers and read you the riot act... you will of course appear chaste, and honour your promise to appear beofre the bench...

everyone gets one chance... you miss it, youll get a custody warrant issued, and traditionally theyll arrest you on a friday and bang you up till court on monday... and because you didnt turn up voluntarily, youll get remanded to your local prison...

and all this for parking on double yellows!
