They usually have three letters on them. For instance, PLE or OBM ( not necessarily the exact letters) with a black oval outline and a white backround. What the h*** is that? It annoys me. Is it some secret society where only a***holes in big chevy trucks (that also have a sticker of calvin peeing on a ford symbol) can belong?

its a place that you've been, I have an OBX one, its from Outer Banks, its just an abbreviation of a place they went.

In New Jersey LBI means Long Beach Island.

It could often be an abbreviation for a known tourist spot, like the above example. In some other cases I know of it is the first three letters of someones last name, or an abbreviation of a last name.

No, they are from places around the world, for instance HB is for Huntington Beach. I think it says where in very small writting on the sticker.

In europe, it's obligatory to have one and it must say the country you come from, like D for germany, I for italy, SLO for slovenia, CRO for croatia and so on.
