James and Lucy were headed to his parent's house for a Christmas party. Lucy was understandably worried. James had asked her to marry him, and she had accepted... but James's parents didn't know yet. "Your mother should know," Lucy said. "She should know before we even get there. Let's stop for a payphone! Please?" James smiled and shook his head. "I want to be able to tell her in person." Lucy sighed. "But I don't want to spoil the party by springing this on them all at once. I don't want them being insulted." James smiled wider. "They won't be insulted. I just know they'll be tickled pink." During the rest of the drive down the long and winding road to James's parent's house, Lucy worried. Would they accept this? They'd already accepted her, but Lucy wasn't sure if they'd accept her as a fiancee. They arrived at his parent's house and walked up to the door. "I want to hold your hand while we tell them," Lucy whispered. "I don't want to be alone." James kissed her lightly. "You're not. Now, calm down. Let's let you meet everyone first. You'll love my cousins. And you'll especially love Jill. I'm sure she's here somewhere." "Jill? Who's Jill?" Lucy asked. James laughed. "A chipmunk. We rescued her last winter. She came in through the bathroom window, half frozen to death. We took care of her, and ever since she's been dropping by almost every day to visit. With all these people here, I'm sure her curiousity is too much for her to resist." Lucy nodded slightly. They went inside, where the party was on in full force. Everyone greeted them happily, and Lucy was amazed to see a small chipmunk sitting in a tiny little dollhouse chair. Were there no end to wonders? James led Lucy to the kitchen where his mother Rachel was just taking a pie out of the oven. "Mom," he said. "I have a surprise for you." She laughed gleefully and set the pie down to cool. "Good, good! Don't make me wait! Tell!" James sqeezed Lucy's hand. "I... I've asked Lucy to marry me, and she accepted." Rachel squealed in excitement, rushed forward, and crushed them both in a giant hug. "Mark! MARK! Come in here! MARK!" James's father Mark hurried in. "What do you need, Rachel?" By this time Rachel was crying. "Tell him! Tell him!" James smiled at his father. "Lucy and I are getting married." Mark cleared his throat, blinked a tear from his eye, and shook James's hand. "Congratulations, son." Rachel wiped her eyes with the edge of her apron and sobbed out, "Okay, well, well, tell me how you proposed." "Aw, Mom..." James grinned sheepishly. Lucy smiled. "We took a hot air balloon trip, the last one of the season, and while we were up there he proposed!" she cried gleefully. Rachel started her sobbing anew, crying out a string of words, only some of which were intelligible. "Lucy... in the sky... with diamonds!" Rachel hugged Lucy once more and then ran out to the rest of the family, shouting "My boy's engaged!" at the top of her lungs. Mark chuckled. "That was a great Christmas present for us, you two," he said. "Now, get out there and accept congratulations from your family!" James and Lucy smiled and headed into the bedlam of clapping, cheering, and toasts being made. It was one of the best Christmases that house had ever seen.

Well, today I woke up, and decided to make myself breakfast. But, when I opened the fridge, I discovered that there was no milk today. So, I asked my girldriend if I could borrow her car to go get some. She said, "Baby, you can drive my car. But this is the last time. You need your own wheels, honey." So, I grabbed the keys and headed out. As if I wasn't bummed enough, when I started up the car the most annoying song ever was playing on my radio: "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy." I grabbed the radio, ripped it out, and hurled it out of the car. It smacked somebody upside the head. I don't care though, it was nobody I know. I almost got to the store, when a watermelon flew from a window and hit me in the face. I accidentally swerved off the road and right into the storefront. Needless to say, I am now a fugitive, wanted for assault, property damage, and auto theft. Sucks to be me.

It's Christmas Eve and I DON"T WANT TO SPOIL THE PARTY, but I have a LONG AND WINDING ROAD to travel. So, before I go, YOUR MOTHER SHOULD KNOW that I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND. Under the tree are gifts for you, but this year, I want to give you diamonds so you can show them to LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS. What? You didn't know she was here? SHE CAME IN THROUGH THE BATHROOM WINDOW. And now before I go, please have a Merry Christmas.
