What does the hand symbol mean where you raise all fingers except for your ring and thumb fingers? You hold down your ring finger against your palm with your thumb.

Dear god I hope you are wrong that it is something sexual becuse then the University of Houston in Texas has a lot of explaining to do.

The University of Houston 's mascot is a cougar and the "symbol" is holdong down the ring (next to pinky finger ) finger with your thumb.

If you are into sports you may have seen in on ESPN or something.

Counting from thumb to pinkie, are you calling your 4th digit your ring finger? If so, then that hand gesture is called the 'shocker'. (Sexual; meant to simulate the position of the fingers during digitial stimulation/penetration of the vagina and anus.)

EDIT:

LOL about Houston!

Here is a link to another question asked about this on Y.A.:

You can also go to http://www.cafepress.com and do a search for 'the shocker', you will come up with this hand sign plastered over t-shirts, mugs, etc.

I'm pretty sure that the use of this hand sign by non-deaf people was first made popular by folk who meant it in the way I describe (the shocker). But if the cougars are using it, then they have simply taken a shine to the sign, and given it their own meaning. No big deal.

Symbols mean different things in different cultures. Holding out your thumb in the USA will get you a ride, whereas doing the same thing in Ghana will get you attacked (can you guess what it means over there?).
