Its legal in the sense that person-to-person (comp to computer) sharing is legal like winamp and limewire... But it is illegal in the fact that the songs have not been released to that company for distribution. If you really want music and movies I would recommened downloading utorrent or bitlord and going to torrentreactor.net to get everything you want for several reasons, its faster downloading, theres more to choose from and the files title IS what the file is! its safer in a virus sense (torrent sites almost always scan files before posting them for you) and it uses up less of your computers resources!

And its free. Use it all while you can!

LimeWire itself isn't unlawful, yet once you employ it to get carry of copyrighted data for loose (this incorporates music, photos, video clips or perhaps information) which you're effectively stealing from the owners and that's against the regulation. that's regardless of however united states of america you're in; the regulation is the comparable throughout. in case you share issues that have a licence on LimeWire than that's nice, by using fact the owner has given you permission to get carry of the report. or you're doing something unlawful. it continues to be unlawful in case you're utilizing the pro version of LimeWire. not one of the artists/copyright holders get any of that money, in basic terms the LimeWire business employer. wish that clears issues up.

Yes and no. Having Limewire on your computer is not illegal. The software is not illegal to download or own. Using it to download copyrighted things (like music) that you don't own IS illegal. In order to legally download something, you have to pay for it somewhere along the lines. If you own the CD but you don't want to scratch it up, you're allowed to have a backup of it. In that case, downloading the files for free would be legal. Or you could use something like iTunes which allows you to pay for the music while you download it. Using Limewire to download music or movies or anything that you don't own is illegal regardless of where the parent company is located.

I used it for over a year, to my knowledge it is not illegal. Canadians also use Ebay too. So, I do not think so, but if you read the fine print at the bottom of their website, I am sure it will tell you any legalities.

No, the supreme court ruled that all P2P software is legal in the US, for now, but watch out. Those stupid music companies could attempt another lawsuit any day.
