There are possibly two reasons one is to do with historic celebrations of the winter solstice, now on or around 22nd december, the date of which has moved over time, it is a comon time of year for celebrations involving light....hannukah, ede etc. Jesus is described as the light of the world.

The second is that Constantine who introduced Christianity on a Grand scale to the Roman Empire, originally was a worshipper of Mithras as were many upper class Romans, to intergrate with Christianity it might have been thought astute to merge Mithras and Jesus Birthday.....Mithras was said to be born on the 25th of December (in roman times the 10th month)

The original celebration was not for Jesus. It was a pagan holiday. The Christian church just dumped Jesus' birthday on it. Think about christmas trees, mistletoe, yule logs , and so on. Nothing to do with Israel! or Jesus. One celebration was for the SUN, that it would soon start to shine more again and everybody had a Yule party. The christians brainwashed people by telling them about the SON. So gradually they changed everybody's brains. A very early form of brainwashing. We know better and just have a good time whatever they decide to call it! Happy Yuletide! Also the halo was round the heads of saints etc was made to be the SUN.

Based on present day calendar(Gregorian) Jesus was born on the 1 March 7 B.C. The reason for 25/12 is that Christianity wanted to destroy Paganism, and it was considered good tactics to impose your own holy days over theirs. This stopped competition between the C and P. 25/12 was the pagan celebration of the winter solstice.

Jesus wasn't born in December. In fact, he was probably born in April or May. But the early Christians wanted to celebrate Jesus' birth without drawing too much attention to themselves (they were being persicuted). At the end of the year, the Pagan's held a festival of Lights. December 25 was right in the middle of this festival.

By rights, the way our current calender works, he should have been born on the 1st of January almost 2007 years ago. However, over the years the calander has changed bit by bit pushing back the date back by a week.

No one knows what day he what exact day he was born, but kwanzaa and hannukah were already being celebrated near the same time so we decided to celebrate christmas on the 25th so that the holidays would be close together.

Who cares ? People get together, enjoy themsleves, take a rest from work, it's an ancient festival (Yule) which north Europeans have been celebrating for centuries, long before the Christians arrived. It's a good thing, gets us through the long cold winter, it's a time for families to have fun together - why bring religion into it ?

Because originally everyone thought he was born on 25th December and nobody could be bothered to change it as everyone was used to celebrating it on the 25th by the time they figured out it wasn't.
