Think leather, bondage buckles, pirate stripes and classic rock, black stove-pipes.

The skinny leg jean is set to be THE trend of the season and when tucked into black leather knee high boots and topped off with a bomber jacket and chain belt.

Black opaque tights are another hot look – chop ‘em off mid-calf to wear under a mini and then pair them with some pointy patent flats in an offbeat colour such as white, red or pink. If sensible shoes are more your style then invest in some bright converse high tops or checkered Van’s classics.

When dressing punk rock style, forget about anything frou-frou, frilly or feminine. Think more along the lines of graphic muscle tees emblazoned with dissident messages such as “Rock the System” and jeans spray painted with your own personal graffiti.

Another point to remember when dressing like a punk rocker is that you should not ignore colour. Although black is the theme colour, it creates a far more dramatic effect when combined with neon pink, dark turquoise, bright red or royal blue.

Bold stripes and polka dots also make a statement, as do different textures such as velvet, silk, lace and leather.

Of course no punk rock chick would be complete without her hair, make up and accessories in check. There really are no rules here – hair can be long and super straight or it can be cut short in a cropped and shaggy style or it can be totally glam.

Make-up is just as adventurous. Powdered face, heavily lined eyes, false eyelashes, bright pink lips and cheeks…go hard but just don’t go trying to conceal all that natural beauty of yours!

Any accessories you wear should make a statement. Rubber bracelets, studded wrist cuffs and chokers, chains, bold pendants and costume style jewellery all stand from out from the crowd and give your outfit more attitude.
