I sometimes cant understand her when she is singing

It's her style. She's never been a powerhouse vocalist (Whitney, Mariah, etc).

Yes, she sings softly because she lacks range and vocal skills. She's really not a very good singer. Don't get me wrong, she's a great entertainer...I was a huge fan in the 80"s.....but there are two kinds of singer in the music business, real ones and studio singers. And Janet is a studio singer. She needs filters and heavy riffs over her voice to pull it off. Way before Ashly Simpson got slammed for lip syncing, Janet was being accused of lip syncing her concert performances in the 90's. I don't know if your old enough to remember her first album, (before Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis turned her into a star) It was horrible...the songs were bubble gum, and her voice was even worst then the lyrics.

Mari C- :(. somewhat? Did you may bypass there? Whitney is sparkling now and has been for quite a few years. sure Janet can def sing yet she would be able to no longer singer greater useful than Whitney imo. the two are very suited and proficient women people although. i like them the two. :)
